4th entry for Aug 23, 2015

This is a 2-hour study, done with a graphite initial sketch, India ink wash underlayer and oil-based pencil on top.
It's on an 18 x 24" sheet of Revere rag paper.
Work like this will be among the things I'll have out to see this year at the Queen West Art Crawl, Sept.  12 & 13th in Trinity-Bellwoods Park. I'll be at Booth M42, on the north-west curve of the big paved circle, facing the community centre.
Hope you can come visit.

These are a 15-minute and a 25-minute study. The top one is Pitt pen on a sheet of 18 x 24" Canson XL watercolour paper, and the lower one is water-soluble graphite and graphite on another sheet of the same paper.

On the Sunday, Dorrie was working at the Jam Factory Art Collective session. These are, I believe, a couple of 1-minute studies up top, four 2-minute ones, three 3-minute ones, and a 5-minute one at the bottom.
All are done with a calligraphy-point Pitt pen on 18 x 24" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.

Entry for Aug.22, 2015

On the Saturday afternoon, Polyna was at Artists 25. I continued to explore the cropped composition approach for the 2.5 hour session. On an 18 x 24" Revere rag paper sheet, this is a graphite initial sketch, India ink wash layer, and oil-based pencil on top.
The tall vertical is the inverse of the 'letter-boxed' study of her from ARC (from July 12).
The Saturday was the first day with some sleeping-in after teaching the Anatomy intensive at TSA, so I was extra-aware of body landmarks - and will be for another week or two 'til it settles into the background a bit more.
The Queen West Art Crawl is fast approaching...September 12 & 13. I'll be showing some drawings there, so come visit -

On the Friday evening, Pixie was working at ARC studio. These are a couple of 3-minute studies at top, then a couple of 5-minute ones and three 10-minute studies.

4th entry for Aug. 17, 2015

These 10-minute poses wrapped up the evening. The top two are Pitt pen on 18 x 18" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper, and the lower two are tryouts with the same pen on 18 x 18" sheets of a lightweight Stonehenge paper I got at Aboveground. At least I think it was Stonehenge, but I may have misread. It had a lightly plastic-y pebbling to the surface, which wasn't especially friendly with the felt pen. Felt pens - at least the Pit ones - seem to work better when the surface is more absorbent, which helps wick the ink out onto the paper.

3rd entry for Aug 17, 2015

At top are three 5-minute studies followed by a 10-minute one. Following a longer break there were a few more 2-minute poses, and a 5-minute one at the the bottom. All are Pitt pen on 18 x 18" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.
I quite like the partial sitting study of Paul third from the bottom - it just kind of popped out as a 2-minute study where I ran out of time. All the same there's something very right about the face, I feel - and also not laboured..

2nd entry for Aug 17, 2015

These are some 2-minute studies, which is where I felt the gestural quality of the drawing began to fall apart as I increasingly tried to rush in a more details.
These are Pitt pen on 18 x 18" sheets of Canson Recycled Sketch paper.
